"Coastline": line that marks the limit between the coast and shore, or limit of the higher high water during an astronomical large tide

"Shoreline": line that marks the limit between the upper shore and lower shore, or limit of the higher high water during an astronomical mean tide

"Transect": a virtual line, perpendicular to the coast or shore, along which coastline or shoreline change rates are measured

"Coastal habitat": a natural habitat associated with a coast or coastline (e.g. dune, cliff), or a shore or shoreline (e.g. beach, marsh)

"Coastal erosion": a landward displacement of the coastline or shoreline caused by natural processes or coastal works; resulting in a negative change rate (-x.xx m/yr with x ≠ 0.00)

"Coastal accumulation": a seaward displacement of the coastline or shoreline caused by natural processes or coastal works; resulting in a positive change rate (+x.xx m/yr with x ≠ 0.00)
